Drummer, teacher, author Rick Lawton
Rick was born and raised in Lexington, Virginia. He graduated from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music. He gained great day-to-day playing experience touring on the Holiday Inn circuit.

He then played in Army bands for 6 years, worked for a national drum distributor, managed music store drum departments, and helped new and inexperienced drummers invest in drum gear.

He's been teaching for over 20 years, and has shared the stage with Patti Labelle, Stevie Wonder, Steve Winwood, and the Monterey Bay Symphony Orchestra.

Rick Lawton, Vic Firth drum stick endorser

Rick has become a Vic Firth stick endorser and a member of the Vic Firth Educational Team.
Vic Firth, the world's largest manufacturer of Drumsticks & Mallets, has a great web site, with all kinds of information for drummers. Vic was just featured on CBSNews' Sunday Morning program at the end of March.

Still working on getting those Rick Lawton custom sticks manufactured—stay tuned.

Rick's played in various rock, jazz and blues bands since age 15, and now resides, teaches, writes and plays in the Philadelphia area, including holding down the drum chair and driving the rhythm section for blues-drenched, horn-enriched, legendary award-winning Jersey band Joe Zook & Blues Deluxe.

Saturdays with Dom

Rick's brought back some more photos from his one-on-one drum lesson with master clinician, fellow Vic Firth stick endorser, and inspirational "ambassador of the drums", Dom Famularo.

Dom Famularo web site link photoYes, we kept Dom's quote about Rick at right (thanks, Dom!).

Yet again, Rick showed up with a photographer, to record what has become a kind of pilgrimage to the studio of the "teacher's teacher".

The first Wizdom Drumshed School in the world, this studio way out on Long Island is just a dream come true.

Have a look at some photos of Dom's incredible new gallery photo linkstudio, a fully soundproofed, roomy, great-sounding space (that could easily double as a bomb shelter!).

"I am so impressed with Rick Lawton, an excellent player and teacher. He is dedicated to continuing his studies to constantly grow as an artist. In our sessions together every time I push him in a new direction, he welcomes the challenge and grows! This is the best example for any student to see...a teacher that still learns!
Rick is setting a high standard for drumming in the 21st century!"
Dom Famularo
Drumming's Global Ambassador

"Rick Lawton is a major talent with such great feel on the drums... jazz, blues, rock n roll, he plays it all.
If you're looking to really learn something about the drums, Rick would definitely be your guy!"
